Hanging munchkin in the wizard of oz movie
It is in fact an ostrich which had been wandering quite freely and was clearly visible throughout most of the previous scene raising its neck upward. Amy , Reading, UK I first heard this over thirty years ago when one of my students brought in "The Wizard of Oz" video at the end of the school year. The actors, recruited from all over the world and billeted away from the rest of the cast, were reputed to have indulged in "sex orgies, drunken behaviour and general dwarf debauchery" - rumours that Garland herself later propagated. I don't know if a munchkin hangs himself, but one of them, during the scene in which Dorothy sets off down the Yellow Brick Road, gathers around the leading lady with the other munchkins and, presumably a little star-struck, cries out "Judy, Judy" instead of the actual lines the others are spouting.
